"A Rose for Emily" By WIlliam Faulkner,
Changing Times: An Interpretation of "A Rose for Emily" The main theme in William Faulkner's short story "A Rose for Emily" represents "holding on the past." Emily Grierson held a view of the past as if it were a rose-tinted place where nothing would change. Her world was always part of the past, even when the modern times were about to enter into her life, she would retreat into the safety of what she knew,
to accept the truth in her world just as many people are not in the present. When the past is easier to accept than the present, an individual will resort to only seeing what they want regardless of the truth. This can affect an individual's judgment and frame of mind.
