American Strategies for Fighting the Cold War

After World War II ended, the tensions between the United States and the Soviet Union escalated over their different ideas in carrying out the plans from the Yalta Conference. The U.S. and the Soviets were trying to rebuild the countries that Germany had either conquered or destroyed. A wide range of weapons was discussed, and the talks resulted in two treaties (SALT I and SALT II). The Cold War strategies mostly consisted of the containment policy and a revised, more aggressive containment policy. Even though the Cold War lasted 35 years, the containment policy did work.
