During World War II, black men and women had many reasons to be angry and resistive as America entered the war. Many were initially reluctant to support the war because they could not forget the unfulfilled promises generated by World War I. For black people the world had changed irrevocably, as the fight for racial justice intensified. The push towards the Civil Rights movement became more urgent and successful. Because of the Civil Rights movement, the U.S. can finally legitimately claim to be the land of the free.
