August Wilson's play "the piano lesson".
I think August wilson's play "the piano lesson" tells us that although there is nothing wrong with persuing the American dream, it should not be at the expense of ones heritage or culture. It also showed the difficulties in releasing the past and moving forward in one's life. It is centered on the conflicts between brother and sister over differences in values and beliefs. Boy willie wants to sell the piano in the name of
widowed mother in a country that is extremely racist. She doesn't seem to want anything more then what she already has. Which is the total opposite from Boy willie. I feel sorry for her because everybody should have dreams. August Wilson has no regard for the American dream. His opinion is that if it (American dream) cannot be achieved without having to give up once culture and history and then it is not worth it.
