Brief Analysis of industrial work, politics, law, and foreign relations from the Civil War to World War I.
In the decades after the Civil War, an "Engine of Change" spread across America (LN 9/11). This engine had five chief causes: government assistance, availability of resources, human capital, foreign capital, and technology. From the second Industrial Revolution to World War I, America witnessed a period of reaction that shaped the twentieth century. The Engine of Change affected the worlds of industrial work, politics, law, and foreign relations. The Engine of Change saw the rise and
of interstate commerce. The third party movements pushed strengthened the importance of national politics and pushed the government towards a trend of regulation. State courts were more and more willing to regulate businesses and protect plaintiffs under common law. US foreign policy followed a strict guide to establishing a restrained empire in the Pacific. America evolved greatly from the Engine of Change to the point that it was no longer "The Way Things Were" (LN 8/28).
