In the early 1840s most of the American public were persuaded that God's given freedom, that they enjoyed, was to be spread out to as much territories as it was possible. Americans saw how their democratic institutions really worked. Therefore, they were determined to take possession of neighboring land and establish the same institutions there. …it happened. First, on the floors of the Congress and then, on the battlefields of the Civil War. In some sense, the end of the Mexican War was the beginning of the Civil War. Also, the Mexican conflict became a good field experience for some of the military officers. While participating in the Mexican War, they trained themselves to be good soldiers. Later, during the Civil War, they made their military careers, becoming leading generals.
