The Civil War is acknowledged as the greatest war in American history. Known as "The War that Never Ended". Nearly three million fought, and 600,000 died. It was the only war fought on American soil by Americans, and for that reason we have always been fascinated with The Civil War. On April 12, 1861, at 4:30 AM, Confederates under General Pierre Beauregard opened fire upon Fort Sumter in Charleston, South Carolina with the use of 50 cannons. The Civil War
so far as to threaten the life of Bragg. This displays the lack of unity in the south. Both sides were very enthusiastic in fighting this war. Ironically, the combination of political events, southern pride, and willfulness succeeded in the abolition of slavery. Many believe that if it wasn't for this war, the abolition of slavery would have been a longer, harder fight. In the north winning this war, millions of slaves were finally free.
