Depression and Treatment

Depression in one form or another affects more than 19 million Americans each year, more than 1 in 5 Americans can expect to get some form of depression in their lifetime, almost two thirds of all depression cases go untreated, 15% of those diagnosed with depression commit suicide, almost 80% of those who experience depression can feel better with treatment and clinical depression commonly co-occurs with other medical illnesses. …of depression, many people find their side effects to be disturbing. Cardiovascular problems are one side effect in which people experience change in blood pressure or heart rate. In addition gastrointestinal upset causes nausea, diarrhea, constipation or vomiting. Also, neurological difficulties include confusion, hallucination, numbness and seizures. Significant weight changes are also another side effect. Lastly, sedation, which is where a patient experiences anxiety, sleep disturbance and agitation, is another side effect of anti-depressants (Relieving).
