Emancipation proclamation

The Emancipation Proclamation was a historic document which led to the end of slavery in the United States. President Abraham Lincoln issued the Proclamation on Jan. 1, 1863, during the Civil War. It declared freedom for all slaves in the areas of the Confederacy that were still in rebellion against the Union. The Proclamation also provided for the use of blacks in the Union army and navy. …while they were at war. This gave women more self-confidence and opened many new possibilities for them. It made people speak out and fight for their rights. The lives of the people of that time had drastically changed because of this document and what it lead up to. The document lead up to the 13th Amendment, which actually freed the slaves. They were given the best thing anyone could ever receive, and that was freedom.
