The Harlem Children's Zone was founded in 1990, by Geoffrey Canada. It is a ground-breaking, nonprofit, community based organization that works to enhance the quality of life for the children and families in some of New York's City' s most devastated neighborhoods. When a child is being reunified with his or her family, case planners work with parents and the foster care agency to make sure the child has access to all of the HCZ services the family needs. The community is committed to protecting children by supporting leadership development. It was a hard decision Sharon made not to go home until they all started healing, dealing and learning how to be productive members of society.
