Shine

Two sequences that are intergal to an apppreciation of Scott Hick's Oscar nominated film 'Shine', are the opeining scences and the sequence of scenes, which gives the audience insight into the events of that led to the protagonist's mental breakdown. In both scenes the director has used compelling sound and visual techniques to tell the narrative, that unfolds the concept of the father-son conflict. …of David's house. We note that the Helfgott house is plain, no garden or greenery. The doors are locked, Ben Rosen is not welcomed, just like the children's friends he is an intruder. When he leaves, the door is locked and bolted by Peter Helfgott. We see the house from the point view of Ben Rosen, music teacher, and competition judge, whose faith in David's musical ability is the catalyst for David confronting his father.
