The Recoveries of Japan and West Germany The recoveries of Japan and West Germany were similar in many aspects. The most obvious similarity was that both Japan and West Germany were defeated and occupied nations in the time of their recoveries. In addition, both nations faced a bleak economic future immediately following their defeats and both were able to recover their dilapidated economies by the mid-1950s. They were both able to make a miraculous
ECRC, or the European Coal and Steel Community. The goal of the ECRC, later known as the Common Market, was to help eliminate restrictions on trade and to create common investment practices. These European economic units facilitated West Germany's economic recovery, but did not aid Japan's economy recovery. The Japanese were not fortunate enough to have the economic units that the Germans had. Finally, Japan was not part of the Marshall Plan; West Germany was.
