At the same time that the tobacco industry was publicly claiming that there was no scientific proof that smoking is a health hazard, official agencies in the United States and the United Kingdom had their hands tied researching and compiling information in an attempt to prove the contrary. The British Royal College of Physicians (RCP) and the American Surgeon General produced almost identical conclusions not only identifying the health hazards and risks of smoking, however …

…the FDA to see whether or not tobacco products should be banned and viewed upon as drugs. A solution in which both the tobacco companies as well as the government can benefit from is not only nowhere in site, it is arguably impossible. Until this solution is found however, billions upon billions of dollars will continue to be lost each year, and everybody even remotely related to the issue will be continue to be unhappy.
