The Election of Episcopal Bishop Gene Robinson
At the Episcopal Church's General Convention in August 2003, the two houses of the church government, the House of Bishops and the House of Deputies, made a highly controversial decision that has threatened to split the church in half. They voted to elect Gene Robinson, an openly gay man, as bishop of the Diocese of New Hampshire. I do not believe that this was the right decision for several reasons. Gene Robinson divorced his wife and
what parts of the Bible they want to believe, although many people do to some extent. The Bible is what all of Christianity is based upon; its teachings are the rules by which we are called to live our lives. If we do not take what it says literally, we have nothing on which to base our beliefs. Although I love my church, I do not believe that electing Gene Robinson was the right decision.
