This is a review and examination of Orwell's Homage to Catalonia. It concerns the Spanish Civil war, specifically from the side of the POUM.

The depiction of the Spanish Civil War by George Orwell in his Homage to Catalonia is remarkable; an extremely well written novel. Orwell, an Englishman by way of India, joined the Workers' Party of Marxist Unity (POUM) to fight against Fascism, and if asked why he was fighting, would have said for "common decency". …no doubt go down as one of the best writers of the twentieth century and this work exemplifies the magnificence of his ability. I would not hesitate for a second to recommend this book to anyone, as it is very hard not to appreciate writing of this quality. I commend Orwell for his fascinating depiction of the Spanish Civil War and the Spanish in general, as Homage to Catalonia is truly a pleasure to read.
