During the nineteen-thirties the main population of Alabama had lifestyles based on prejudices against others. When children were growing up in these times it was natural to assimilate the prejudices of their elders. Though they lose some innocence throughout their life lessons, children are able to see the world through the cloudy layer of prejudice to clear skies beyond it.
