The goal of any war would be to make the enemy surrender with a minimum amount of casualties on your own side. The atomic bomb helped the allied side reach that goal by cutting losses to a minimum, at the same time forcing Japan to surrender and ending the war. The Atomic Bomb was an absolute necessity.
